Rather rare variants of the Hitler Youth Knives are those with the clipped “Bowie Style Blades” as I have here.

This example by C. Jul.Herbetz is uncommon in itself, those encountered usually by WKC.

Overall condition is very good. The pommel and crossguard assembly are in a base metal, nickel plated and with light wear to the eagle’s pommel where the press fastener from the belt fitting has rubbed over the years, a feature I like to see.

The black Bakelite grips have only one small area of distress, to the left upper end of the H J diamond. The diamond is very good, of the species without the fish scale pattern, and able to rock slightly in place. Again a very good sign.

The blade is without damage, with good cross graining and with the slightest, no doubt period evidence of sharpening. The maker’s details are on the Ricasso.

The scabbard and leather belt holder are free from damage with some loss to the black enamel paint on the scabbard.

A very nice example.
